How we conduct our research

Over an extensive period of research, we hand-tested a wide range of ecommerce platforms and created websites on each one. During that process, we critically evaluated each platform in the areas that matter most to businesses: sales tools, value for money, website features, design functions, help and support, and ease of use.

We also invited everyday users to try the platforms to provide a customer score. This score represents the platform’s user-friendliness, and how likely that user is to recommend it. We then scored each ecommerce platform out of five for each of those categories, helping you understand each platform’s specific strengths and weaknesses in greater detail.
